At The Orchard, we offer a range of services for children and families, including providing high quality and individualised consultations, assessments, formulation and psychological intervention, as well as counselling, to assist in easing psychological distress, overcoming behavioural difficulties and promoting emotional well-being in children, adolescents and their families presenting with a wide range of difficulties.
We pride ourselves on promoting positive mental health and resilience in the children and young people we work with.
An integrated and collaborative approach
We understand the importance of using a collaborative approach in all of our work, to help us to develop a shared understanding of the difficulties being experienced and agree on the most appropriate and effective way forward. This can involve one-to-one sessions with children or adolescents, sessions with parents or sessions where parents and children/young people attend together. Other members of the family including siblings and members of extended families may also sometimes attend some sessions if appropriate.
As well as working directly with families, we are also able to offer consultation and liaison with professionals in other settings (including psychiatrists and GPs), where appropriate, and can work alongside colleagues in schools/colleges.
We are trained in a variety of different approaches including:
- Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Systemic Approaches with a particular interest in Solution Focused Therapy
- Psychodynamic Therapy
- Behavioural work
- Eye-Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing therapy (EMDR)
- Mindfulness-based approaches
- Counselling using the therapeutic arts
All our work is evidence-based, making use of our own extensive clinical experience and knowledge of the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) Guidelines.
